Vespasian ruled Rome from 69-79 CE. After the death of Nero, a power struggle between the top generals of Rome exploded. Vespasian was the winner. He is known for building huge architectural masterpieces, the most famous is called the Flavian Amphitheater also know as the Coliseum. He was known for being a good ruler but the Coliseum was very violent. Unfortunately, he did not live to see the finished product. He died of natural causes, most likely old age, and his son Titus was his heir. In memory of Vespasian, his son had 100 straight days of fights in the Colosseum once it was finished. Under the rule of Vespasian, Rome had great strength and was very stable.
