Julius Caesar ruled Rome from 49-44 BCE. He was a cruel dictator who demanded to be worshipped as a God. He made a lot of changes to Rome including building temples and buildings. He changed the calendar to the Julian calendar which we still use today with 365 days each year and a leap year. He is best known for ending the Roman Republic. He was murdered on March 15th 44 BCE by members of his own senate who asked him to retire because they feared he was too powerful, but he declined. They stabbed him 23 times.
