Caracalla ruled over Rome 211-217 CE. He was known for being a tyrant and ruling by fear. He came to power after murdering his own brother. He thought people could cleanse themselves of sins so he built a giant bath house which still stands today. These were public baths for people who could afford it. Caracalla spent a lot of money on invasions that were unsuccessful. After only six years of reign, he was stabbed to death by his own guards in 217 CE. The same year, a horrible fire burned the Coliseum and the heart of the capital city. This was the beginning of the end for the Roman Empire.
